Saranda forest

Saranda Forest: The Enchanted Land of Seven Hundred Hills Located in the heart of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, the Saranda Forest is India's verdant jewel and a testament to nature's unmatched grandeur. Deriving its name from the local term meaning "The Land of Seven Hundred Hills," Saranda is a rich mosaic of rolling sal-covered hills, cascading waterfalls, iron-rich rivers, and deep cultural roots that make it a unique eco-tourism destination in Eastern India.

A Sanctuary of Biodiversity

Spread across approximately 820 square kilometers, Saranda Forest has now been officially declared a wildlife sanctuary. The terrain ranges from 200 to 927 meters in elevation and is covered primarily by dense sal trees, teak, palash, mahua, bamboo, and other indigenous flora. The forest is home to: 28 species of mammals including elephants and leopards 60 species of birds 20 reptiles 8 amphibians 63 varieties of butterflies The Tholkobad region in the forest is a special habitat for rare orchids, including all 11 known species of the Dendrobium genus and the rare Bulbophyllum crassipes and Pecteilistriflora.
